Exchanges between NTHU and India

With a long track record of actively strengthening exchanges with India, NTHU not only ranks first among all Taiwanese universities and academic institutions in both the scale of cooperation and quality of exchanges with India; it has also enrolled the largest number of Indian students across Taiwan, thereby laying a solid foundation for exchanges. NTHU's excellent partnerships with the Indian government and academia have put the university in a strong position to integrate related resources. Furthermore, NTHU's existing research and teaching standards can ensure the quality of the Program, thereby further aligning the Program with various goals and targets consistent with national development and international trends. However, given that most students in India studies were previously enrolled in science- and engineering-related programs at NTHU, the Program can also help attract Indian students in humanities and social sciences fields to study in Taiwan.

1. Exchanges with sister universities in India

With years of experience in establishing exchanges and collaboration with India, NTHU has signed collaboration agreements with 20 Indian higher-education institutions, such as the Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). NTHU has also launched a series of exchanges and collaboration through the initiation of dual-degree and student exchange programs with these sister universities. Therefore, NTHU will be able to enrich and strengthen the Program through various means, such as interviews with scholars at sister universities and joint (distance-learning) courses, in the future.

2. Taiwan Education Center in India

As commissioned by the Ministry of Education (R.O.C.), NTHU established the Taiwan Education Center in India (TEC) in 2011, with the aim of teaching Traditional Chinese and assisting in efforts to spread Taiwanese culture and promote Taiwanese higher education. Since its inauguration on August 1, 2011, the TEC has set up branches in nine universities, including O.P. Jindal Global University. These have served as important bases for spreading Taiwanese higher education in India. In the future, these bases can serve as vital channels of exchanges between the faculty and students of the Program and India.

3. India-related courses

In 2017, the Center for India Studies (CIS) at NTHU applied for the "2017 Summer Program for Talents in Indian Culture, Economy and Trade" and the "New Southbound Program - Development of Talents in Regional Culture, Economy and Trade" under the Ministry of Education (R.O.C.). During that summer, the CIS successfully enrolled students in these program, which consisted of lessons in Taiwan and overseas visits. Hence, NTHU’s experience in curriculum mapping promotes the initiation of the Program. In addition, the Center for General Education (CGE) at NTHU has also offered India-related courses, such as "Indian Civilization and Contemporary Society" and "Analysis of Indian Culture," thereby demonstrating considerable experience and capacity in teaching related courses.
